The York Architectural Association is excited to invite everyone with an interest in architecture and the public realm to join this year鈥檚 .
Spanning two full weekend days, this event, powered by a dedicated team of volunteers, opens the doors to York鈥檚 most intriguing and significant buildings, all completely free of charge.
Founded by Kathy King in 2022, York Unlocked was inspired by the successful models of London Open House and Bristol Open Doors. Since its inception, the festival has quickly gained momentum, becoming one of York鈥檚 most anticipated annual events.
The festival aims to educate, inspire, and deepen our appreciation of architecture by giving access to York鈥檚 architectural gems; some well-known, others hidden or typically inaccessible. Imagine rediscovering familiar places from a fresh perspective or exploring hidden treasures that have long been out of reach.
This year's festival will feature a variety of attractions and tours, including:
- National Railway Museum at York Unlocked: Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Railway Museum and look behind the scenes at its historic buildings
- Guildhall York Council Chambers Tours: Tour the medieval Guildhall, where Council meetings are still held today.
- York Art Gallery, Bettys Caf茅 Tea Rooms, and Terry鈥檚 Clock Tower: Enjoy exclusive behind-the-scenes tours.
- Walking tours: Explore historic pubs and churches on guided walks.
