Join the Liverpool Architectural Society for a screening of E.1027 Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea, a compelling docufiction exploring the legacy of Irish architect Eileen Gray and her iconic modernist villa, E.1027. The film delves into Gray鈥檚 creative vision and her conflict with Le Corbusier, who controversially altered the house and its meaning. Drawing from original writings by Gray, Jean Badovici, and Le Corbusier, directors Beatrice Minger and Christoph Schaub craft a hybrid narrative blending documentary footage, re-enactments, and theatrical scenes.
This stylised approach allows for a deeper exploration of architectural philosophy, authorship, and memory, portraying Gray鈥檚 emotional and intellectual response to what she saw as the 鈥渧andalism鈥� of her work. The film brings their opposing views into direct confrontation, offering a rich and layered perspective on modernist architecture.
The evening includes a short introduction by the Liverpool Architectural Society and a 15-minute interval after 100 minutes. This screening is part of a series exploring architecture through film.
